Text Box: WiARC PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR WHEELING FOR HEALING RIDE 2010

This was the first year for the new 33 mile ride which is a lot more challenging then the old ride in Germantown. After a flat land portion of the ride, the bikers come to Monches Park and Bill WA9MXQ and Ed KC9LJR for a rest. The ride gets more challenging after the rest stop and the bikers come to Emerald Dr. and Saint Augustine Rd. where Randy KC9CPV was stationed on a sharp right turn down hill and then a sharp left turn. After this there were many more turns and hills before coming to Dave W0AH at Saint Augustine Rd and Monches Rd where the bikers made a left turn and headed for Colgate and Amy Belle School through many turns and hills. At Amy Belle, Poncho KA9OFA, is there to make sure of a safe turn to head back to the hospital. The comments on the new route were very positive. On the 15 mile route in the Falls Mark AB9UA watched over two different locations. Watching over the entire ride, as rovers were Greg K9ZZZ and Matt KC9NNJ on their motorcycles. We had two Sag trucks to pickup problem bikers and bikes. Rick KC9SLL and Alan KC9IJJ manned these trucks. Pearl WB9BZC was our Net Control and kept all communication running smoothly. Phil KC9CI was with the event leader and coordinator for the Hams.
The weather was very good this year and there were 1,150 bikers spread out over the three routes. The Community Memorial Hospital was very appreciative of the Wisconsin Amateur Radio Club’s generous support for the Wheeling for Healing Family bike ride to raise funds for the cancer center.
